Consider buying the (more expensive) "Encounter 2" from Rockport instead of this one.

I used to use (and abuse) the Rockport World Tour Elite Encounter walking shoe, which was the most expensive shoe I'd ever bought and turned out to be worth every penny. It engendered some die-hard Rockport brand loyalty. I felt like Hermes (the mythological messenger with the magical winged sandals propelling him at great speed over long distances) and they held up great but eventually had to be replaced. Rockport stopped making them and supposedly this shoe, the M7100 Pro Walker, was the closest match in their current product line (I've since learned of an "Encounter 2"). It is uncomfortable, slightly less business-looking due to lining and visible logo placement (but still better than most athletic shoes), and the components are all thinner and more loosely stitched together (not in a breathes-easy way but in a this-is-going-to-fall-apart-in-six-months way). Less cushion inside, less traction outside, strange proportions on the sole from front to back (sort-of like a tipped-forward box moccasin), pinch where the foot splays. Aside from being uncomfortable and unbalanced for the feet it may also have something to do with why my knees have been killing me since switching over a few weeks ago.
It's not a really bad shoe, it's better than no shoe, but Rockport set my standards high with the subtle, quiet excellence of the WTEE model and these have been a real let-down in comparison. At least now I know why they're less expensive.
